The Adventist Church celebrated a digital milestone on March 22, 2023, when popular gaming app “Heroes: The Bible Trivia Game” reached 500,000 downloads. This result underscores the app’s growing popularity among users around the world, who have spent more than 18 million minutes playing and answered more than 45 million questions.
Two years after its release, Heroes has become a favorite with gamers and Bible scholars. With challenging questions and engaging gameplay, the app celebrates the heroes of the Bible, making it a great tool for educating players about the stories and teachings of the Bible.
Williams Costa Jr., director of communications for the Adventist Church, welcomed the achievement: “It’s always exciting to see dreams come true. What’s cool is that half a million downloads of Heroes isn’t the end, but it’s a huge step toward continuity.”
The Bible Questions and Answers app developed by Hope Channel and designed by Rev. Sam Nevis, Associate Director of Communications for the Worldwide Adventist Church, has also become popular for educational learning purposes. Neves explains that “Heroes have educational value for being immersed in the Bible. The player follows a series of play and learning as they play, so they know the story of the Bible without necessarily having to read it.”

As the Adventist Church celebrated Heroes’ second anniversary on March 25, 2023, the app’s creators highlighted the app’s many accomplishments.
In June 2022, Heroes partnered with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. The museum provided a space for Heroes to promote the app and allowed visitors to play the game and learn more about the app.
Since its launch in 2021, Heroes has also collaborated with Hope Channel and Novo Tempo in Brazil. In 2022, Heroes also promoted an online tournament in Brazil where app players gathered to compete and have the opportunity to play in person on the special edition of the TV show featuring the Champions. “Bom de Bíbla” on Novo Tempo TV.
Champions’ success is also reflected in the popularity of his website, with over 100,000 page views in the last month alone. In about two years, the app has become available in nearly 15 languages, across the Hope Channel network, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, Swahili and Tagalog. Achieving the development goals proposed by the app’s creators when Heroes launches in 2021 has made it possible for the game to be accessible to more users around the world.
Game news and releases
Over the past two years, Heroes has also developed The Big Questions, a 20-lesson Bible study guide available in English, Portuguese, French, Romanian, and Spanish. Its main goal is to answer the most common spiritual questions that many users search for on the Internet. In 2022, Big Questions launches its second edition in English and Portuguese with 21 new lessons.
On December 24, 2022, the creators of the app added Mary, the mother of Jesus, to the game, bringing a total of 13 biblical heroes to life.
Digital platforms have also been instrumental in promoting the game, with the heroes’ social media platforms posting content focused on the heroes’ in-depth knowledge, and offering personal interactions with players. Currently, Heroes has over 37,000 followers who receive content developed daily specifically to provide players with a more complete experience.
predictions for the future
The app development team envisions the future of the game and looks forward to making it more interactive and including new quests and heroes.
Created with the goal of sharing the message of the Three Angels with players and young people around the world, Neves said: “Champions was born to encourage young people to learn about the wonderful stories of the Bible and to discover that they are called to be God’s heroes today, to be witnesses of Christ.”
