The French under-17 team failed to qualify for the next round in the UEFA Euro 2024 despite a good performance.

On Monday, May 27, 2024, the Blue Team faced Portugal at the Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaca (Cyprus). This important match on the third day of the group stage of the European Championship 2024 marked the second victory for Belgium. After suffering a heavy defeat against England (0-4), when they entered the competition, the young Tricolores team responded by defeating Spain (1-0) during the second match.

Enzo Sternal, the young attacking bloc from Olympique Marseille, opened the scoring in the 36th minute of play. The French advance did not last long. The Portuguese responded two minutes later by equalizing thanks to Afonso Patrao, the Braga U-17 striker. With this score (1-1), the two teams separated in the first half.

Moleb liberates France

Returning from the dressing room, Frenchman Jose Alcocer made a series of failed attempts against a Portuguese team, ensuring qualification to the next round with this result, knowing that in the other group match, England advanced over Spain at the same time. We had to wait until the 81st minute to experience redemption. Enzo Molebi, number 19, sent the ball very well into the penalty area, staring at the goalkeeper before putting the ball into the net (2-1).

If the French performed their best performance since the beginning of the tournament, it was not enough to confirm their ticket to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals. They had to perform better than the English in the last match, but the latter beat Spain (3-1). Thus, France ranked third.
