It appears that the peak period of the influenza virus has passed in Gaspésie-Ile-de-la-Madeleine.
This is the observation of the Regional Director of Public Health, Dr. Yves Bonnier Viger.
“It's not that different from the rest of Quebec. We reached a certain peak a week or a week and a half ago, and since then cases seem to be declining.”
Even if the measurement of the spread of the virus remains approximate, the trend seems quite clear.
“Last year, this happened two or three weeks ago,” he adds.
The virulence of the virus also appears to be slightly less strong than last year.
“Again, we are not monitoring all cases. “It's a sample we took, but based on what we're seeing in cases, there will be more at the top last year than we're seeing this year,” he points out — adding that it's unlikely there will be an upside.
These are mainly Type A cases spread in the governorate.
Hospitals in the area are doing well in terms of traffic.
“If we vaccinate more people, it would be better. But let’s say it is not a difficult season compared to other seasons, especially in our region.”
The number of people vaccinated is equal to last year.
“It's not perfect because we certainly want to do more vaccinations, but it's still good,” Dr. Bonnier Viger points out.
