There is a desert and a desert. The International Festival of Geography (completely free) that opens Friday in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges promises a tour with speakers from all sides, as usual, specialists in climate, geography, geopolitics, social, etc.
Whether frozen or hot, deserts are areas of economic or environmental change whose changes are measured on a planetary scale. An example is the Sahara, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indus River (round table Friday at 9 a.m. in Espace George Sadoul) or the North Pole, whose supposed resources make it a desirable pole of attraction (Friday at 3 p.m. Espace George Sadoul again). But deserts are also medicinal (Fridays 3pm at Empire Cinemas) or in the heart and ruins of our cities (Saturdays 9:30am at Empire).
In addition to conferences or round tables, FIG maintains the same formula with its gastronomy venue, literary fair (with a Portuguese speaking library) and various workshops around town, especially for children. Dedicated marquee for them (Saturday and Sunday 9am-6pm) with FIG Junior.
Cinema Excelsior organizes a special festival programme. Also observe decentralized events throughout the weekend to meet as many audiences as possible.
The full program is available at Festival site Or for sale at €2 under the main tent under the Freedom Tower.
