Terribly topical Belgian film: the gritty Tori et Lokita of the Darden brothers as well as a very original and, above all, very successful twisted French comedy. The visitor from the future.
The new film by two directors who are making Belgian cinema shine all over the world, I am of course talking about the Darden brothers. The Siritans are back with a great movie: “Tori and Lukita”, a powerful, highly objective and award-winning drama at Cannes, a true cry of rage. It evokes the fate of two immigrants, a young teenager and a young boy who arrived illegally in Belgium. Two young men, far from their families in Africa, are forced to accept small illegal jobs to survive, and two young men are left behind, invisible in society.
“Tori and Lucita” is a clean, radical and tense, no frills or pause, a social suspense thriller that exposes the living conditions of underage immigrants, who are abused, and exploited by adults without morals or mercy. It is undoubtedly the darkest film of the Darden brothers, it literally plunges the spectator into apnea versus the misfortunes that these two young men combined with an inevitably tragic fate. It is also impossible not to feel deep sympathy for these lovable characters, but also to feel rebellious in the face of the injustices of our own immigration policies. “Tori and Lokita” feels like a true top-tier trailer, an overwhelming movie as much as necessary!
