Oyonnax have announced that three-quarters of the Portuguese international midfielder Pedro Bettencourt will stop his career “with immediate effect” due to concussions, the club announced on Wednesday, and will be relegated to the Pro D2 league next season. He has been training at ASM.

The player suffered several concussions and underwent a recovery process with the support of his club. Bettencourt, 29, notably featured in the last World Cup in France for Portugal (25 caps), including the historic win over Fiji (24-23).

He has been at Oyonnax since 2019 after playing for Newcastle Falcons (2018-2019) and Carcassonne (Pro D2, 2016-2018). The player also went through the ASM training center between 2014 and 2016.

With Oyonax, Pedro Betancourt played 75 matches (7 attempts) and was involved in Oyomin's run to the top 14 in 2023.
