The University of Southern Indiana’s Butte College of Science, Engineering and Education has received a five-year extension of its accreditation for its chemistry and biochemistry programs from the American Chemical Society (ACS).
The ACS Approval Program promotes excellence in undergraduate chemistry education by offering “a broad and rigorous chemistry curriculum that gives students the intellectual, experimental, and communication skills to become effective scientific professionals.” Employers find that graduates from ACS accredited programs are more prepared for technical employment. USI is one of 701 institutions accredited by ACS.
“Accreditation by ACS is critical for our biochemistry and chemistry programs at USI to ensure quality classroom teaching, provide hands-on laboratory experiences and access to state-of-the-art equipment,” said Dr. William Elliott, interim dean of the School of Medicine. Butte College of Science, Engineering and Education. “It also ensures that USI offers a coherent and meaningful curriculum to prepare students for chemistry careers or the pursuit of an advanced degree.”
