Since 1993, the parish fair has been held on the second Sunday in October, in the Sanctuary of Saint Quitery. Includes Mass, platforms and meals, except in 2021, where the meal was served in the Bornos Multi-Purpose Room. The marquee is now being built by a private company and the caterer prepares the main course, with paella replacing the soup.
Dedicated volunteers prepared about twenty stands to delight children and adults, not forgetting to cook duck hearts and prepare traditional Portuguese-style chicken.
The 2023 edition of Sainte-Quitterie took place on Sunday 8 October, under bright sunshine, in the presence of former priests, now retired, including Pierre Salinave, founder of the fair, and Jacques Arago. Father Alexandre Ntungasane presided over all, and Jean-Pierre Bordagaray acted as director for the second year in a row, assisted by the indefatigable Jeanine Lacoste, the indefatigable parish secretary of St. Quitiri.
300 guests gathered
The Mass was celebrated in the presence of no less than 350 faithful, followed by a reception attended by many of the elect and parishioners, hosted by the Basque Higaldia Choir. Under the tent, 300 guests enjoyed duck hearts and paella, all accompanied by friendly encounters. The varied and colorful stands delighted young and old until the drawing took place at the end of the afternoon. The list of winners is published in the parish churches. The 114 pieces of Quinou Dupouy can be collected in Caubios-Loos.
Monday October 9th was a tidy day. Volunteers worked to restore the shelter site, dismantling and storing 20 tents, 150 tables and 400 chairs, loaned by the municipalities of Sauvignon, Auzen and Aubin and the community of Louis in Béarne.
