Who among us has never dreamed of having a personal assistant to manage their emails? Good news: Gmail is one step closer to its latest update.
Admit it, are you tired of fumbling through your mailbox looking for the famous package tracking number or the exact time of your flight? Good news: Gmail has heard your prayers! The latest update to the app on iOS and Android brings a major improvement that could change the way you manage your emails.
A facelift for an already appreciated job
You're probably familiar with Gmail summary cards. They just moved. These cards have gotten bigger, more detailed, and smarter, and are now able to provide you with a very practical summary of your most important emails.
Gone are the days when you had to sift through every message to find the information that matters to you. Gmail does the work for you.
Instead of stressing and frantically searching for the confirmation email in your inbox, you'll see a beautiful card appear at the top of your inbox. At a glance, you'll know if your package has been shipped, when it will arrive at your home, and you'll also have a button to track its delivery.
And that's not all! These magical cards adapt to all your needs:
- Your purchases online: order tracking, delivery date, everything is there!
- Your events: concert, cinema, theatre… The card reminds you of the time and location and gives you direct access to your ticket.
- Your Trips: Information about your trip, your hotel room, and everything is centralized.
- Your invoices: amounts, payment dates, etc.
That little extra that makes a difference? These cards appear at the top of the original email message.
“almost”
Google has another card (no pun intended) up its sleeve. A new section called ” almost » (Coming soon) will soon appear in your inbox.
The idea? Gather all the summary cards related to upcoming events together.
Google's ability to read our emails
These cards will save you time and some headache. But let's not forget that they rely on Google's ability to read and understand the content of your emails. If the thought makes you shudder a little, you're not alone. The issue of confidentiality remains a thorny topic, even if Google maintains that everything is done according to the rules of the art.
Additionally, if these maps are misinterpreted by the algorithm, it will likely lead to more confusion rather than clarity. We can imagine scenarios where important information is misclassified or simply ignored by the system.
