During a call made by journalist Luxon Saint-Ville on Thursday morning to the Dominican Republic Consulate in Miami, it was confirmed that no special measures are in place for people traveling with a Haitian passport. The Dominican authorities have made arrangements to verify the entry and exit of all persons entering its territory. However, the consulate explained that as long as travelers have a valid passport, legal status in the United States, or a Dominican visa, they can enter and exit without a problem.
However, two airlines told the reporter in a phone call on Wednesday that they could not fly passengers with Haitian passports to Santo Domingo. This situation is confirmed by the testimonies of travelers using Spirit Airlines, who confirmed that they were actually stranded, as reported by journalist Luxon Saint-Ville.
As a reminder, JetBlue and American Airlines have confirmed that passengers with a Haitian passport cannot travel to the Dominican Republic. Journalist Lacson St. Phil She had shared this information on her social media pages, explaining that customer service in these two companies had confirmed this restriction. “You will be able to travel to the Dominican Republic, but only if you have a US passport. If the passenger has a Haitian passport, unfortunately, we cannot allow boarding,” one customer told the journalist.
