Donald Trump and his fascists have taken over part of US foreign policy through their control of the budget. They blocked funds for the war in Ukraine and Israel.
The disciplined and obedient Republicans behind Trump are demanding that more money be allocated to defend the southern border of the United States to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the country.
The problem of illegal immigration is real. But on the scale of threats facing the United States, the threats of Russian expansionism, especially in Ukraine, and the contagion of political Islam, among other threats in Palestine, are far greater.
The war in Ukraine can only be won by providing more resources to Ukrainians, even if Ukrainian society remains corrupt. In this regard, we must acknowledge the very serious efforts of the Ukrainian government to try to curb this problem.
The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians cannot be resolved with a military solution. Nothing more than Islamic expansion. But Israel needs financial support, pending a more sustainable solution. Waiting for the Israeli government to deal with the issue of combating extremism, as it announced. Hopefully, this battle will also include Jewish extremists.
Trumpian isolationism
The United States under Trump is isolationist. They have a bias in favor of dictatorships. They are guided by the lure of short-term gains. In other words, the United States under Trump is not interested in foreign policy. During his first term, Trump significantly weakened the State Department.
Defending democracy or fighting religious extremism are not part of the calculations of Trump and his fascist cronies. On the contrary, they are fighting democracy. In addition, Republican leaders depend on American religious extremists to gain and maintain power.
Prepare for a more warlike world
It is clear that during Trump’s second term, the world will become more aggressive than it is today, simply because many dictatorships will see this as an exceptional opportunity to expand their territories.
So, it seems clear that if Putin had tried to fully invade Ukraine under Trump, Trump would likely have done nothing to help the Ukrainians.
Putin can show off at his big annual press conference today. Despite its heavy losses, it can expect the beginning of victory in Ukraine thanks to the financial disengagement of the United States. If it maintains itself better, it can begin to reap the benefits of the United States’ announced withdrawal from the world.
Does this mean that the United States under Trump will abandon all its allies? of course no. But they will not defend countries of which they are not direct allies, nor will they commit as strongly to some of their close allies.
