Very encouraging clinical trials for a breast cancer vaccine – 98.5 Montreal

In his science column, Martin Carley comes to tell us about the very encouraging clinical trials of a breast cancer vaccine on the microphone of Patrick Lagasse.

“It’s encouraging in many ways, because it’s actually a vaccine that was announced in 2021 against a form of breast cancer that is actually very aggressive. We call this the triple negative.

“Why triple negative? Because in the cancer cells of this cancer, we don’t have receptors for two hormones, progesterone and estrogen. And so, it’s also not the cells that produce an excess amount of a protein called HER2. These are the usual three approaches to current breast cancer treatments.”

“So these are cells that are difficult to treat. We don’t really have any options now against this. In addition, it is an aggressive cancer. It accounts for about 10 to 15% of cases. Since treatment options are few, we would not be surprised to learn that even when we can remove it , we go into remission, but it is a cancer that recurs regularly.

In 2021, researchers announced a vaccine that primarily targets the protein found in these cells. There, the vaccine must stimulate the immune system to go to war.
