Vítor Vitinha arrived in January from Braga, and had a lackluster start with OM. But the young Portuguese striker, the most expensive rookie in Marseille’s history, ensures he has the potential to do much better.
Having arrived with high expectations around him, Vítor Vitinha has become the most expensive rookie in OM history. Marseille leaders paid 32 million euros to recruit the Portuguese during the last winter transfer window. An investment that is currently struggling to justify itself, after a difficult first few months for the young striker.
5 times holder in 15 matches, the striker from Braga scored two goals (double against Troyes in mid-April in the French League). Difficulty finding the net preventing him from getting more playing time. Despite a complicated start, Vitinha didn’t seem to have affected the Portugal international’s morale. In an interview given to ParisianOM’s No. 9 has announced that it can do much better next season.
In an interview with Free League 1Vitina recalled his difficulties in adapting since arriving at OM: “When I had the certainty of coming to Marseille, I couldn’t even tell my parents. The adaptation was difficult because I am far from them.” [..] It wasn’t going, it was really hard when I came here.”
The young Portuguese striker had never left his hometown and his parents before, and it was one of the reasons for his discomfort when he started with his new city: “My adaptation was difficult because I am away from them. It is a new club, a new city, it was difficult because I left the people I love.”
