The Quebec Remparts began their trip to Baie-Comeau with a 6-1 loss to Drakkar on Friday night.
In this first of two games in as many evenings at the Henry Leonard Center, the crowd favorites opened up the machine in the third period. Julien Payet broke a 1-1 deadlock in the opening moments of the final third. This was the Sherbrooke native’s 11th season.
A few moments later, Raoul Bouillard took advantage of Nathan Plamondon-Michaud’s presence in the cell to give Drakkar the lead with two goals. On top of this success, Felix Gagnon collected the second goal from his three assists. He was also partner in goals from Julien Lanthier and Isaac Dufort in the first and third halves respectively. It was the second time the 19-year-old forward had three points in a game this year.
Bouillard and Louis-Charles Plourde made matters worse in the final moments of the confrontation. Thus, the two young men completed an amazing run with five unanswered goals, delighting the 2,217 fans who attended this occasion.
“The players had more energy in the third period. It is normal for them to show much less during the first two periods. We dragged our feet,” said Drakkar coach Jean-François Gregoire, whose comments were quoted by Le Manic.
The only success Remparts had was the work of Zachary Marquez Laflamme. He shook things up in the second half.
In front of the cages, Philippe Bourdages stopped 24 balls in the victory, while Louis-Antoine Dino stopped 30 balls in the defeat.
With this victory, the Drakkars ensured that they would not be defeated in regular time at home in 2023-2024. This is the twelfth consecutive win in 16 home matches so far this season.
The Red Devils and Drakkar will meet again late Saturday afternoon. This will be the third match this season between the two teams. The Cote Nord team enjoyed victory in the first two matches.
“Again, we had a great third period, but tomorrow [samedi]Gregoire noted that we will have to be more consistent for 60 Minutes before we can take advantage of the time off deserved for the holiday season.
