Whatsapp is setting up a function similar to Apple's Airdrop

The messaging app has integrated a new way to share files in a beta version. Whatsapp was supposed to develop its own Airdrop system, inspired by Apple.

This is a useful feature for sharing files with people nearby. Instead of sending bulky messages, Apple's Airdrop system lets you send photos or videos without going through any network.

Whatsapp wants to take inspiration from this messaging system and integrate it into its messaging app. At least that's what the new beta version of the app on Android suggests, in detail WABetaInfo And spotted before 01net.

Shake, it's common

The function offered by the site specializing in beta versions of Whatsapp is simply called “Share with people close to you”. It is still under development, and is not currently available, even through the latest beta version of the app.

But WABetaInfo was able to extract images showing how the new sharing system works. According to its description, it should allow sending a file to nearby phones. Or Apple's equivalent of Airdrop.

In order to use this feature, both users will need to open the app sharing page. “It seems that it will be necessary to shake the device to generate a sharing request, in order to maintain a controlled approach to file sharing,” explains the specialized site. This will avoid unwanted receptions, which are well known to Airdrop users.

According to information from the beta version of Whatsapp, the maximum size of files that can be sent via this method will be 2 GB. These exchanges, like conversations, will be protected by end-to-end encryption.
