In December, the 31-year-old helped the Moroccans reach the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament, a first for an African country. Bono played six matches, allowed only five goals and beat such strong opponents as the Spaniards and the Portuguese. He also defeated his native Canada in the group stage.

In La Liga, the Sevilla FC representative was one of the best goalkeepers in the competition in 2021-2022, scoring just 24 goals in 31 matches. He also had 13 votes.

Bono will face Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The latter won the World Cup Golden Glove by helping Argentina win the final on penalties against France.

On the women’s side, the finalists were Anne-Kathine Berger (Chelsea), Marie Erbis (Manchester United) and Christian Endler (Olympique Lyonnais).

This year’s FIFA award winners will be announced on February 27, at a special ceremony in Paris.
